According to that station, the earthquake was located at latitude: 19.91 and longitude: 75.54 west, at 11:02, local time, about 25 kilometers southwest of the town of Niceto Perez.
On the 10th another tremor of magnitude 6.7 shook Pilón, also affecting Granma, Guantanamo and Santiago de Cuba, and sending waves as far as Camagüey to Cienfuegos, in the center of the island.
Some 48 hours later, 1,966 aftershocks of the said tremor were recorded, of which 71 were presumably perceptible. According to the National Center for Seismological Research, more than 6,902 aftershocks have been recorded since then, 127 of which were perceptible.
