An article on the influential New York newspaper noted that the 45th edition of the film event in Cuba will screen the first two episodes of Netflix’s long-awaited adaptation of the Colombian writer’s masterpiece.
The NYT recalls the close relation that developed between the Havana film event and the late Garcia Marquez, who was part of the festival’s jury on occassions.
After winning the 1982 Nobel Prize for Literature, Garcia Marquez sometimes still described himself as a film buff at heart, especially regarding Latin American motion pictures, the publication added.
According to the article, the Colombian novelist “repeatedly studied and taught film, wrote screenplays and contributed to create and manage the New Latin American Cinema Foundation in Cuba.”
