The concerns of Fidel Castro and Leal to transmit the importance and need to maintain and defend the autonomy of the nation to the new generations was one of the issues underscored by the two intellectuals at the Fidel Castro Center.

Speaking to Physics and Journalism students from the College of the University of Havana, they presented the books “We Must Believe in Cuba. Interviews with Eusebio Leal Spengler” and “Communion of Ideas: Eusebio Leal, a Son of His Time.”

Resik and González reviewed actions and thoughts of Fidel and Eusebio regarding the architectural restoration and social transformation of Havana and the rest of the country, their confidence in the new generations and the respect for national symbols, among other topics. They also told several anecdotes concerning the friendship founded and practiced between both of them, the similarity and correlation of their spiritualities and precepts, which turned the presentation into verses of homage to both personalities.

The meeting resulted in an exhortation to the students of the College to read, debate and research about national history and, in particular, the bibliography referring to the lives of the revolutionary leader and the historian.

In “We Must Believe in Cuba. Interviews with Eusebio Leal Spengler,” by journalist Magda Resik, director of Communications at the Office of the Historian of Havana, Leal makes a kind of definition of the essence of Cuba and his commitment to the homeland.

“Communion of Ideas: Eusebio Leal, a Son of His Time,” by the Doctor of Political Sciences Abel González, reveals how the nation, and especially Havana, beat in the work of the historian, in addition to his participation in national and international events.

Both books were published by Ediciones Boloña, of the Office of the Historian of Havana, and Ocean Sur, a publishing house that offers its readers the voices of revolutionary thought in Latin America.

The book launch was organized in the context of the commemoration of Fidel Castro’s death and the founding of the Fidel Castro Center, in addition to the celebration of the 505th anniversary of Havana.
