The official from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) said that the festivities would be dedicated to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, founder of the organization on February 23, 2000, and a major sports promoter.
We are going to celebrate a nationwide campaign to highlight the figure of the Commander-in-Chief, with events in the communities, sports teams and in sports initiation schools, Lewis said.
He added that the aim is to acknowledge sports glories, clubs and institutions and create a connection between athletes and the neighborhood, with exchanges in significant places that the Cuban leader created in his battle to take the name of Cuba to the top of Olympus.
It was also revealed that the 25th Anniversary seal will be granted for a single time to founders, personalities, sports glories, active athletes and organizations that have contributed to the development of sport in Cuba.
Finally, Lewis informed that a tribute would be paid to Tomás Herrera Martínez, who was the president of the organization for 20 years.
Former volleyball players Zoila Barros and Inés María Molinet; National Basketball Commissioner Dalia Henry, and former gymnast Dr. C. Mélix Ilisástigui, director of Science, Technology and Environment at INDER, were present at the meeting.
