Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning explained that this result was achieved thanks to the government´s tireless efforts. She also stressed that “China will never abandon its compatriots and the motherland will always be its firm support.”

The spokeswoman also reiterated Beijing’s opposition to what she described as “unjust politically motivated persecutions” against Chinese citizens by Washington. She assured that China will continue to take the necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights of its nationals.

The three freed Chinese were not identified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also did not mention the reasons for the arrest.

The diplomat reported that a person wanted by Chinese justice, who had been a fugitive in US territory for years, was extradited to China. “This case shows that no place can be a permanent refuge for those who evade justice,” Mao said.

Mao Ning added that the government will continue its extradition and asset recovery efforts under the principle that “there will be no rest until the fugitives are captured.”

The United States previously announced an agreement to release three Americans detained in China as part of a prisoner exchange.
