68th anniversary of Granma landing recalled in Russia

Moscow, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) The Minister Counselor of the Cuban Embassy in Russia, Marcos Lazo, presided over the ceremony for the 68th anniversary of the Granma yacht landing and Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) Day in Moscow on Thursday.

The event, which took place at the cultural center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, was attended by representatives of the Armed Forces, Russian lawmakers, veterans and internationalist fighters, as well as the corps of military attachés accredited in Moscow.

In his keynote speech, the Cuban military attaché in Russia, Colonel Monica Milian, highlighted the importance of the Granma landing and the creation of the Rebel Army, the predecessor of the FAR, to achieve the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.

Milian also recalled the imprint of the leaders of that feat, who were not only participants in it, but later played a crucial role in the development of the capabilities of the FAR, the social gains and the internationalist work, which today they defend together with the combative people of Cuba.

The second head of the Directorate of Military Collaboration at the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Aleksander Zinchenko, underscored the ties of brotherhood between the peoples and armies of Russia and Cuba, forged since the years after the revolutionary triumph in the Caribbean nation.

Since those first moments, an unbreakable friendship and collaboration between the armed forces of both countries has been maintained, stressed Zinchenko, who reiterated that Cubans can always count on the help of the Russian people and armies.

During the tribute, films about the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba and sites of historic and cultural interest in the Caribbean island were also screened.
