Lacalle Pou and Orsi agree on Government transition in Uruguay

Montevideo, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Uruguay’s incumbent and elect presidents, Luis Lacalle Pou and Yamandú Orsi, respectively, met today to start the transition process with eyes set on March 1, when the opposition's Frente Amplio will assume the government.

The two met after election last Sunday at the Executive Tower, headquarters of the presidency of the Republic.

“We have agreed on some obvious and necessary elements for a transition process, and from now on a transition begins, a process, a job that is arduous. The doors are wide open to work calmly, with everything on the table,” said Orsi.

He described the conversation as “very direct, clear and filled we a lot of good will to make (the process) smooth, nimble.”

(We will be moving forwards) without surprises and with the doors open, so that in March we will have all the data, all the information and all the team on the field”, Orsi stressed in a press conference.

Their agenda included sanitation in the country’s interior, as part of a water project fostered by the current government, to which the Frente Amplio proposes another alternative.

There are aspects of the project that do not convince me. I know that it is on the table and I know that at some point we will have to talk about it, he said.

And there are also the commitments with Brazil, where the president-elect will travel tomorrow in his first international outing.

Yamandú Orsi will request President Luiz Inácio Da Silva to accelerate investment projects between both countries.

“I have a very specific topic to talk about with our brothers in Brazil,” he detailed.

“There are two pending tenders for the Yaguarón bridge (on the border of the Cerro Largo department) and for the dredging of San Gonzalo, in the Marín lagoon (on the border with Rocha),” Orsi explained.

These are initiatives to benefit land and river communication, as promoted by the current administration

The two politicians dealt with pending issues in the Common Market of the South (Mercosur), which will conduct a summit of leaders on December 6 in this capital, an event where Orsi will participate as guest.

During the press conference, Orsi announced Senator Alejandro Sánchez as his future Secretary of the Presidency.

“Pacha” Sánchez, as he is known, was the head of the campaign command of the Frente Amplio candidate, till he became president-elect.
