India is optimistic about ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon

New Delhi, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) India today reacted with satisfaction to the ceasefire announced between Israel and Lebanon hoping that it will be a breakthrough for peace and stability in the entire region.

In a brief statement, the Foreign Ministry recalled its constant calls for de-escalation, restraint, and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.

The day before, Israel and Lebanon accepted a cease-fire proposal; however, amid this scenario, Tel Aviv overnight shelled the border crossings from the northwest of Hermel to the Akkar governorate.

Lebanon’s interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati demanded that Israel respect the decision stemming from a proposal by the United States and France.

During a telephone call with President Joe Biden, the head of the Lebanese government demanded an Israeli commitment to withdraw from all areas and sites it occupies and to comply fully with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

To date, the Israeli aggression against Lebanon has resulted in the death of 3,823 citizens and 15,859 wounded, including children, women, aid workers, doctors, and media professionals.
