The country will host the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and private banks.
El Salvador, a full member of the group, is a recipient of important development credits from the CAF, an institution created by the governments of Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Peru, and Venezuela, with the aim of financing projects to public and private entities of its shareholders to “promote development”.
That bank approved $596 million in loans to El Salvador in 2022 and 2023, while disbursing $302 million in the same period.
One of the most recent loans was approved in October 2024 with an amount of 320 million for the Aeronautical Development Program “El Salvador Flies”, which includes the remodeling of the Ilopango Airport and the construction of the Tonalá aerodrome in Sonsonate.
It also awarded $145 million for “Operations to strengthen the sovereignty of connectivity of El Salvador,” or infrastructure for an undersea cable along the country’s coast.
