Cuban municipalities join ecological transition program

Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) The municipalities in Cuba’s central province of Sancti Spiritus are currently joining the Ecological Transition Program, an international project that promotes sustainability and governance through the articulation of public and private players.

This project, supported by the European Union in collaboration with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is benefitting Yaguajay, Cabaiguan and Trinidad, among the eight municipalities selected nationwide.

Experts told reporters that citizen participation is essential for sustainability to succeed, adding that implementing clean energy involves technical challenges and regulations that support its application.

Michel Zerquera, President of the People’s Power Assembly in Yaguajay, publicized this territory’s experiences in dealing with international projects that have provided it with know-how and technologies.
