“I categorically condemn the filthy act by the Republic of Korea’s rogues who have once again have polluted our sacred territory by launching subversive political agitation materials,” said Kim Yo Jong, deputy chief of the Communication and Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).
In a statement quoted by the state-run ACNC news agency, Kim said that the balloons were launched from several areas near the southern border line and termed it as provocation.
“The public and state security bodies blocked the demarcations and searched, collected and disposed of the garbage”, she added.
Ten days ago, in response to a similar episode, Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un said that “the people’s indignation has reached its limit” and warned that “the culprits of this shameful provocation will pay a heavy price”.
Last May 10, about 20 balloons from South Korea burst into the DPRK’s airspace carrying about 300,000 leaflets with calls to destabilize the state and insults to the DPRK’s top leader. This is a years-established practice that the South Korean justice system has not prevented under the pretext of democracy and freedom of expression.
