The spokesman of that portfolio, Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, detailed that 2.2million dollars of that amount correspond to Afghan exports, among them raisins, minerals, dried figs and onions.

Besides the aforementioned items, Afghanistan also exports, fruit juices, cucumbers, talc and soft drinks.

Imports consist mainly of barbed wire, malt water and various oil and gas products, the spokesman added.

Jawad stated that although efforts have been made over the past three years to increase exports and facilitate trade, Afghanistan’s trade balance with countries in the region and the world remains uneven.

Russia is one of the countries that annually exports more than $300 million worth of goods to Afghanistan, but sales to Russia are very limited by comparison, he noted.

A Russian delegation recently met in Kabul with officials from Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry to discuss expanding economic, trade, investment and transit cooperation.
