Moscow respects the sovereign choice of the Uruguayan people and the priorities highlighted by the president-elect for his administration, and hopes for the strengthening of friendship, trust and cooperation between Russia and Uruguay, said the message, published on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Foreign Ministry added that Russia aspires to further ‘develop relations with the South American country in all spheres, as well as to promote interaction on multilateral platforms for the sake of building a just world order’.
On November 24 the second round of the presidential elections was held in Uruguay.
The winner with 52.8 percent of the votes was Yamandú Orsi, representative of the center-left opposition coalition Frente Amplio.
