We believe that this scourge “must be addressed in the way we have been doing, but above all it must be focused on prevention, which we will only achieve if we build a new collective notion of equality, of coexistence” between both genders, said the Secretary of Women, Citlalli Hernández.
When highlighting the initiative called “It is time for women to live without violence”, Hernández told the regular press conference by president Claudia Sheinbaum that the start of the campaign coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which falls on the 25th of November.
Hernández disclosed the 10 commitments proposed by the Executive, so as to continue strengthening joint actions in favor of women and girls in Mexico, including the permanent coordination among the federation, states and municipalities.
She also mentioned the training of public servants, assurances of adequate care for women subject to violence, and supporting with funds the efforts of the federation in terms of care and prevention.
On November 15, Sheinbaum signed the constitutional decree that establishes substantive equality and protection of women, as well as the eradication of the gender wage gap.
Hernández then specified that the modification to seven articles of the constitution also ensures the right of women to a life free of violence and the establishment of a gender perspective in matters of public security and judges’ performance.
Also included are the duties of federal entities specialized in crimes linked to violence against women, and parity in the integration of all levels of public administration.
“These reforms are historic, they are a step forwards in enshrining women’s rights in the Constitution, as an example of regional and global progress, and of course, it establishes and strengthens this commitment from the Mexican government with all women,” the official stressed.
