DRC calls to put an end to violence against women and girls

Kinshasa, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) The humanitarian coordinator in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Bruno Lemarquis, called to join forces to put an end to violence against women and girls, on occasion of today's commemoration of the day of elimination of the scourge.

In a message published on social networks, Lemarquis called for an end to violence against women in all spheres of society, whether in the family, at work or in public.

The exhortation came as part of the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign in the DRC, which this year emphasizes femicide.

In this regard, Lemarquis commented that statistics from 2023 evidence that every 10 minutes around the world a woman is intentionally killed by an intimate partner or family member.

‘This is an unacceptable reality!’ she emphasized.

He said there is still much to be done in terms of prevention, education, multi-sectoral response and support for victims of gender-based violence.
