During the tribute, the participants highlighted the legacy and validity of Fidel’s thought in the permanent struggle to defend national sovereignty and independence.
With white flowers and an audiovisual presentation, the members of the diplomatic mission recalled passages from the life of the leader, who was considered one of the notable protagonists of 20th-century history and politics.
They also highlighted Fidel Castro’s relations with China, and his visits to this nation in 1995 and 2003, which helped to increase political trust between both parties.
Earlier, Maria Chen, who studied Spanish language in the 1960s, told Prensa Latina that Fidel was a unique national hero, loved, and respected by the Chinese people.
Aurora Lin Hai, in turn, regretted not having met Fidel personally when she served as a diplomat in Cuba. She celebrated the leader’s vision to strengthen ties between the two nations.
“Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish relations with China; Fidel and our Chairman Mao Zedong were great statesmen with a long-term vision for bilateral relations,” she said. iff/jf/idm
