Rarely does Washington apply the No Travel Alert, as it is only used in a country where there is an active war, and at the moment Ukraine has that status, as well as a few latitudes where US citizens are not welcome, as the digital newspaper Haiti Libre points out.
Recently, the US government described the security situation in Haiti, where gangs are rampaging and martyring civilians, as unpredictable and dangerous.
On 21 October, a convoy of armoured vehicles belonging to the US embassy in Haiti was attacked by one of the armed gangs.
This attack was considered serious here, but the embassy reported that there were no deaths or injuries in the convoy.
In September, Washington reiterated that its ability to care for its citizens who choose to travel to Haiti is limited, and advised against travel to a country that remains on high alert.
Since March, Haiti has been under a state of emergency and several Americans have been victims of robbery and other crimes, including kidnapping.
Washington – some media recall – is blamed here for the economic, political and social chaos in the Caribbean country, where it intervened militarily in 1915 and allegedly abandoned in 1934.
Most of the guns and ammunition used by the gangs that are martyring the population come from the United States.
