According to a Pentagon press release, US military personnel were attacked 206 times in the West Asia region and 125 times in Syria.
It added that Washington’s servicemen in Iraq were the target of 79 attacks, while two attacks were reported in Jordan.
These figures only cover the period from 18 October 2023 to 21 November 2024.
The self-proclaimed Islamic Resistance of Iraq claimed responsibility for the actions in Syria, saying they were part of an ongoing response to US support for Israel’s war against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Washington maintains more than 15 illegal bases on Syrian territory without the consent of the Damascus government nor UN approval.
Syria has repeatedly denounced this presence as an occupation, claiming that the US military’s actions on Syrian territory support terrorist activities and are aimed at destabilising the country and plundering its natural wealth.
