For the festival’s director, Tania Delgado, this 45th edition will offer some very special moments, including a panel as the festival’s closing event, which will pave the way for next year’s celebration of the centenary of this important figure in the island’s film industry (31 December 1925 – 19 April 2013).
“We cannot celebrate 45 years without talking about Alfredo Guevara, one of the architects of the event for whom we are here today; this recognition will be like the first grain of sand in his anniversary,” Delgado said.
We will highlight Alfredo’s memory, his presence in Latin American cinema, his imprint, the festival director added.
Guevara carried out his film work in this country from 1959, he was the founder of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, which he directed in two phases over three decades.
He collaborated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) on cultural policies and was Cuba’s ambassador to that organisation.
