The Cuban president briefed his Russian gust on the current situation his country is confronting, in the aftermath of recent natural disasters and went on to highlight the significance of Belglov’s visit, which follows previous sojourns by senior officials of the Russian government.
Díaz-Canel praised the strength of bilateral relations and acknowledged President Vladimir Putin’s sensitivity and understanding of the problems the Cuban people are dealing with, according to the Presidency of the Republic in X.
The president also appreciated Russia’s support for Cuba in international forums, particularly in its struggle against the US blockade, and added that his country supports Moscow’s efforts in favor of a multipolar world.
Likewise, he reiterated his interest in continuing to strengthen economic and commercial ties with St. Petersburg, in areas such as health, biotechnology, tourism and scientific and technical exchanges.
For his part, the governor voiced his gratitude for the president’s welcoming, assuring him that “there is a lot of human warmth in our city towards the people of Cuba.”
“We have seen how you are the continuation of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz’s legacy, how amid such difficult conditions you manage to maintain that courageous, firm spirit, and how over 60 years you have managed to preserve all that heritage and the best traditions of an entire people,” he stressed.
Belglov is attending the “Days of St. Petersburg in Cuba”, a cultural exchange initiative aimed at fostering s ties between both countries.
