In a meeting with youth in the Bicentennial Plaza of the Miraflores Palace, the government headquarters, the president reflected on the present and future challenges for Venezuelan students, and insisted on their academic training and on national values bequeathed by the country’s 19th century independence heroes and late president Hugo Chávez.
He pointed out that Venezuela has had a tradition of more than one hundred years of “a vigorous and revolutionary student movement and you are its heirs.”
He acknowledged that students are a beautiful generation that carries very well that legacy of strength, rebellion and hope, as they frequently chant in their slogans and songs, as expressions of dreams that became reality thanks to Commander Chávez. Maduro expressed his joy that both Federations, the University and the Secondary Education Federation, have developed the processes of their congresses in parallel “as two great united student currents.”
He congratulated the purity and honesty with which they have performed these tasks. “You need to always ensure that the leadership is unitary, that you are always united, not heeding the intrigues or divisions fostered by anyone; peace and strengthen ideas must prevail,” he warned.
Maduro voiced hopes that all university careers be aligned with the future development of the country.
“You are the technological generation of the 21st century and you have to be trained in mastering all technologies,” he asserted, adding that there’s a lot to be done, so that Venezuela consolidates its own path.
The President pointed out that social networks are having a negative impact in Venezuela, where in recent days at least three teenagers died as a result of viral challenges transmitted by Tik Tok.
In his words, social networks are becoming a toxic and criminal entity that aims to “poison the minds of young people who are vulnerable to the information displayed there.”
What is happening, he said, had never happened before and is happening in many countries and has reached Venezuela, causing the death of “several high school students.”
The head of State praised over 100 local delegates who will attend the World Antifascist Congress of Youth and Students starting tomorrow, which will host some 500 participants from 60 countries from all continents for two days.
