The award will be presented in recognition of the significant contribution of Martorell who is a painter, graphic artist and scenic designer, to the arts and culture. The event will take place at 16:00 local time in the Aula Magna of the UH.

Martorell is a contemporary master of Puerto Rican art with a multidisciplinary work of emancipatory and decolonizing sign.

Through his work and time he has maintained a close and sustained link with Cuba.

He is now in Havana participating in an extensive program of activities.

His visit coincides with the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the UH Art History Chair and the actions of the Biennial.

In addition, Galería L of the university campus hosted this week the opening of the exhibition “Martorell LL”, a tribute to the career of the multifaceted Puerto Rican artist.

On Wednesday, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) awarded Martorell the René Portocarrero International Prize.
