Syria welcomes 600,000 displaced people from Lebanon

Damascus, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) The brutal Israeli aggression against Lebanon caused a huge wave of displaced Lebanese and Syria opened its doors and welcomed 600,000 people, revealed today the Syrian delegate to the UN, Qusai Al-Dahhak, quoted by the press here. We have mobilized our capacities and energies to the maximum to welcome hundreds of thousands of Lebanese, Syrians and nationals of third countries, said the diplomat quoted by the daily Al-Watan.

He clarified that 71 percent of those who arrive in the country are Syrians who resided in the nation of cedars.

The large number of Syrians who returned from Lebanon and the facilities offered to them by the authorities conclusively prove the falsity of Western accusations and allegations regarding the issue of the return of refugees, Al-Dahhak explained.

He added that Damascus, in cooperation with UN agencies and humanitarian and civil society entities, provide these displaced people with all the necessary services despite the great challenges and difficult circumstances facing the country in general.

The official launched an appeal to support Syrian efforts in the humanitarian response, provide the necessary funding and respond to the relevant appeals launched by the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

Syria affirms its interest in improving the humanitarian and living situation of its nationals throughout the country, and also emphasizes supporting the steadfastness of all Syrians, through serious and tangible commitment in the implementation of early recovery projects, livelihoods and the provision of basic services, he clarified.

Finally, the Syrian representative to the UN stressed the need to immediately, completely and unconditionally lift the unilateral coercive measures that constitute a collective punishment of the Syrian people and deprive them of meeting their most basic needs, the diplomat concluded.
