Health system crisis persists in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) Haiti's public health system is undergoing a profound crisis affecting the population, especially pregnant women.

“Today, the country does not have a public maternity center. The only maternity hospital that existed was the one in Chancerelles. It has been operating for months, doctor Ronald Laroche, stated in Le Nouvelliste.

There is nowhere for a pregnant woman to give birth, and the few places that exist are paralyzed.

We are in a terrible situation, catastrophic, whose severity is not measured in general, the doctor, who lamented the death of four women who needed a cesarean section but did not have access to gynecologists or anesthesiologists because they were unable to reach them because of the violence, said.

The violence in the country took a dramatic turn in the health field, as the situation worsened to the point where both public and private hospitals became a disaster, Dr. Laroche said.

“In the absence of a functioning health system and the face of escalating violence, human lives continue to be lost every day, hence the authorities and the international community must become aware of this health agony and act quickly,” Laroche concluded.
