“Cuba and the Republic of Cyprus commemorate the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations,” the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in X.
“We ratify the will to continue deepening ties between our countries,” adds the text also released on Facebook.
Cuba and Cyprus commemorate 64 years of a friendship that began on November 22, 1960, when the largest of the Antilles became one of the first countries to recognize the independence of that Republic.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the ties are forged “by the shared visions of two historic leaders, Commander Fidel Castro and Archbishop Makarios, and transcend “mere diplomacy.”
The deep relationship is based on the defense of national sovereignty, mutual respect and international cooperation.
The two islands maintain collaboration in various international forums and bilateral exchanges include areas such as culture, science, education, sports and agriculture.
