China condemns new U.S. veto on Gaza resolution

Beijing, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) China condemned the double standards of the United States by vetoing a UN Security Council resolution, on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the proposal called for a ceasefire in the enclave and reflected the international community’s commitment for peace.

Lin stressed that after 13 months of conflict in Gaza, the death toll exceeds 40,000 and has unleashed an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

He criticized Washington for using its veto power for the sixth time to block the resolution, while describing the action as an obstacle that paralyzes the efforts of the UN and the international community.

“This veto reinforces the global perception of the double standards of the United States, positioning it against international calls for peace, the hopes for survival of the Palestinian people and the ethical principles of humanity,” the spokesman said.

Lin Jian urged the warring parties to comply with relevant UN resolutions and immediately and unconditionally implement a ceasefire in Gaza, in order to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.

He urged Washington to abandon its political calculations, respect international law and assume its responsibility as a global power to contribute to stability and peace in the Middle East.
