The case investigates the abductions and ill-treatment of the members of the Party for Victory of the People (PVP) Liliam Celiberti, Universindo Rodríguez and two of Celiberti’s sons, which occurred in November 1978 in Porto Alegre, in joint action of the security forces of Uruguay and Brazil, during times of the dictatorship.
After being kidnapped, they were taken illegally to Uruguay, where they were tortured and imprisoned until their release in November 1983.
The former soldier had been convicted in July 1977 for the forced disappearance of Oscar Tassino.
Uruguayan courts this week ordered the prosecution of retired colonel Luis Agosto, another former military accused of human rights violations during the dictatorship that ruled here between 1973 and 1985.
August is charged with crimes against humanity against militants of the National Liberation Movement-Tupamaros detained and tortured in the Army Garrisons La Paloma.
