New tremor shakes Cuba’s East

Santiago, Cuba, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s National Seismological Service today recorded a fresh 4.0 magnitude earthquake, located 19 kilometers southeast of Pilón, in the eastern province of Granma.

According to the service, the earthquake was perceptible Thursday at 08:17, local time, located at 19.76 degrees north latitude and 77.19 degrees west longitude, at a depth of 10.0 kilometers.

“So far, perceptibility has been reported in some localities of the Granma province, with no human or material damages recorded,” local authorities said.

On the 10th, another earthquake of magnitude 6.7 occurred in the municipality of Pilón, which shook Granma, Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba, and was felt as far away as Camagüey and Cienfuegos, in the center of the island.

Some 48 hours later, 1,966 aftershocks were recorded, 71 of which 71 were presumably perceptible.

Since then, a total of 5,186 aftershocks have been recorded, of which 123 were perceptible, the service indicated.
