The Festival will be held from December 5 to 15, with the works in competition as the main course.
However, this time, the place of honor will be occupied by the launch of the book “La Historia y la animación en la Vida de Juan Padron” (History and Animation in Juan Padron’s Life) by Aramis Acosta, general advisor of the Animation Studios of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
At a press briefing, the Festival’s director, Tania Delgado, pointed out that Padron’s figure is essential as he was the father of Cuban animation cinema. Children and adults will always remember him as the creator of the animated character Elpidio Valdes.
Another moment of this tribute is the 2nd “Juan Padron in Memoriam” Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum, with coordinators: Paola Becco, from Argentina, and Cesar Cabral, from Brazil.
Ernesto Padron, brother of the director of the film “Vampiros en La Habana” (Vampires in Havana, 1985), who was also the co-screenwriter of this film, will represent the Cuban side. jrr/iff/mem/dpm
