Cuba’s National Ballet shines at Shanghai festival

Shanghai, China, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) successfully performed at the 23rd Shanghai International Arts Festival, as part of its Asian tour.

The company presented The Swan Lake in the opening performance, starring Viengsay Valdés and Ányelo Montero.

With these presentations, the BNC highlights its historic successes in China, a country where it has performed seasons for over 60 years, according to a press release from the group.

The company will again replay The Swan Lake in Shanghai tomorrow and then move to Beijing where it will perform this emblematic work of the Cuban repertoire in Alicia Alonso’s acclaimed version of the original by Petipa and Ivanov, on November 25 and 26.

Viengsay Valdés and Anette Delgado, will assume the double role of Odette-Odile while Dani Hernández and Ányelo Montero will alternate in the role of Albrecht.

The company will then travel to Vietnam and then to Laos, where it will offer two representative programs of its repertoire, with selections of “The Nutcracker”, “Don Quixote” and “Carmen”.
