Diplomats from the two countries recalled at the Foreign Ministry the strength of Cuba-Laos relations, even before the formalization of their political ties on November 4, 1974.

At the ceremony, which was attended by the head of Cuban diplomacy, Bruno Rodríguez, Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal highlighted Cuba’s cooperation for the development of the Asian nation, and support from Laos against the United States blockade against the Caribbean island.

The Government of Laos has ratified its rejection of Cuba’s inclusion on Washington’s arbitrary list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

According to he diplomat, both nations share a history, cause and common principles, which reveal their similarities in the struggle for independence, peace, social justice and the aspiration to build socialism, each with its particularities, Vidal added.

Cuba also celebrates the achievements under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and its firm stance in support of common causes amid adversities.

Lao Ambassador in Havana Vanhtha Sengmeuang thanked Cuba for its historic support for his country’s liberation since the 1960s and for the promotion of the economic and social development of its people.

Cuba was the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to formalize relations with Laos, they recalled during the cancellation of the multi-colored postage stamp, which shows the Cuban flag alongside images of the national flower of both nations.
