Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian criticized remarks by a senior representative of the U.S. Strategic Command, who expressed the country’s intention to preserve some of its nuclear weapons in the event of a future conflict.
According to the spokesman, these statements are a reflection of hegemonic thinking and the search for absolute strategic advantages on the part of Washington.
He denounced that the United States intensified the modernization of its “triatomic” nuclear force (ballistic missiles, submarines and bombers), increased the role of these weapons in its national security policy and strengthened agreements on “extended deterrence” and nuclear sharing with its allies.
These actions, he warned, erode the global strategic balance, raise the risk of military confrontations and exacerbate the nuclear threat.
