Last week the Chamber of Deputies approved and sent to the Senate the bill of expenses and revenues for 2025, which leaves without funding the INDH, an autonomous entity that is not under the authority of any power of the State, but requires public resources.
In a statement issued here, more than 50 organizations and political leaders recalled that the creation of this institute was driven by civil society and endorsed by an agreement product of the experience lived during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).
Its aim is to bring justice and prevent the recurrence of crimes against humanity committed during that period, where according to various reports, more than 40 thousand cases of torture, disappearances, murders and other crimes were recorded.
The attempt once again to leave the INDH without a budget is a serious attack not only on that institution and its workers, but also on human rights defenders and citizens, the text warns.
