Islamist attack kills five soldiers in Nigeria

Abuja, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) A new attack by an Islamist group on Nigerian troops left at least five soldiers dead and 10 wounded, military sources here said.

According to a report by the Armed Forces, the attack took place this weekend in Gubio local government area, Borno State, in northeastern Nigeria, and four other servicemen are missing.

The Director of Media Operations of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Edward Buba, in a statement issued yesterday and picked up by local media, blamed the attack on the Islamist group Boko Haram and its splinter group, the Islamic State in West Africa Province (Iswap).

The military part acknowledged the loss by the Army of an armed truck, three armored vehicles, and an excavator, so specialists point out that it was a large-scale combat with the use of weapons of various types.

Reliable statistics put the death toll from Islamist actions at 35 thousand and the number of displaced persons at 2.100.000 in this country, the most populous and second largest oil producer on the African continent.
