As reported by the press here, this position of the Syrian incumbent was expressed in his remarks at the high-level ministerial plenary session in the context of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which is being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Syria is one of the countries that do not contribute to the emissions that cause climate change, but it is one of the most affected by this change, the Minister denounced.
The environmental effects have become more severe due to unilateral coercive measures, the terrorist war imposed on Syria and the practices of the Turkish, US and Israeli occupying forces, which has caused the deterioration of the environment, he said.
He explained that despite terrorism, occupation by foreign forces and unilateral coercive measures, the Syrian government continues to work and implement rules to protect the environment and address climate change.
