Spokesman Lin Jian expressed opposition to the interventions of Western countries who, using judicial cases such as that of Jimmy Lai, try to interfere in the internal affairs of China. “No one can hide behind the freedom to carry out illegal activities and pretend to evade legal sanctions,” he reaffirmed.
In this regard, he described Jimmy Lai as a key player in the unrest against the central government and an agent of anti-China forces.
According to Lin, the enforcement of Hong Kong’s National Security Law by the govenment’s Special Administrative Region (SAR)is fully supported by the Basic Law and the existing legal framework.
The spokesman also emphasized that Hong Kong’s judicial organs operate independently, ensuring fair, public and transparent proceedings.
He added that the central government strongly supports the SAR’s efforts to safeguard national security and punish activities that threaten the stability of the state.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry stressed that since the return of that special administrative region to China, Beijing unswervingly keeps the principles of “one country, two systems” and guarantees a high degree of autonomy.
