New Haitian Primer Minister struggles with old troubles

Port-au-Prince, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) Starting Monday Haiti's Prime Minister Alix Didier will be wrestling with the country's long-standing problems, most prominently the criminal gangs that recently forced the Toussaint Louverture International Airport to shut down.

Right now, there’s no way to enter or leave this capital by air, after armed gangs shot three planes, with the most recent being the US aircraft Spirit Airlines, which had no choice but to land in the Dominican Republic, carrying an injured flight attendant.

Didier and those who came to power after his predecessor Garry Conille was ousted, face the challenge of finding the right formula to stop criminal gangs, which went on a no quarter destructive spree last week, killing and wounding, displacing thousands of others and burning homes.

In a speech quoted by Haiti Libre digital newspaper, Didier said his primary objective is to prepare the ground for credible, inclusive, and transparent elections.
