The event, which brings together activists from almost the entire country in person and virtually in this city of Michigan, reformulates its work strategies in light of a new administration in the White House as of January 20, 2025.
Gloria La Riva, coordinator of the Venezuela-Cuba Solidarity Committee and the Hatuey Project, said that in the debates they analyzed “how to expand the work of solidarity with Cuba” and in particular highlighted the importance of unity, as well as the role of youth.
The activist said that “these terrible four years of (Joe) Biden (without change in policy towards Cuba) and before that (Donald) Trump” passed, who now begins a second period as President.
The Hatuey Project, in a campaign coordinated with The People’s Forum and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, raised almost 200 thousand dollars that were used to buy electric generators that were taken to Cuba, he explained, referring to the support given to the people of the island to mitigate the impact of the electric energy crisis.
“Also with the Hatuey Project we are going to send the fourth donation of medicines for children with cancer, something that we consider very important,” he said.
It will be a delivery to hospitals in Santa Clara and Havana, and “what we do is the product of the work of many people who have donated from their pockets, humble people,” he stressed.
The day before, three other organizations joined the NNOC on the first day of discussions of the event: Stand up for Cuba (Chicago); Community Movement Builders (Detroit) and Diáspora Pa’lante (New Jersey).
In her account on the social network X, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Cuban embassy in the United States, Lianys Torres, thanked the numerous expressions of solidarity from the American people, whose voice has been raised strongly against the blockade and against the inclusion of the island in the unilateral list of sponsors of terrorism.
