Cuban residents in Mexico voice support for motrherland

Queretaro, Mexico, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) Gathered in their 12th National Meeting on Saturday, Cuban Residents in Mexico voiced their solidarity with their country of birth and condemned the United States' economic, commercial and financial blockade on the island.

The meeting aimed at updating the agenda of the Jose Marti Association of Cuban Residents in Mexico, exchange views on main challenges ahead and reiterate their commitment to Cuba.

“We continue defending the homeland and demanding the immediate lifting of the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba for more than 60 years,” they claimed in a release.

The document also demands the exclusion of the island nation from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list” and the return to Cuba of the US illegally occupied Naval Base in Guantanamo.

Cuban Ambassador to Mexico, Marcos Rodriguez, opened the event, followed by the screening of a video on the Association’s activities from 2022 to 2024.

Ana Teresita Gonzalez, General Director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cuban Residents abroad at Cuba’s Foreign Ministry (MINREX), lectured the meeting on current ties between Cuba and its emigrees and current related challenges.

From March 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024, US ongoing sanctions inflicted losses to Cuban economy amounting to 5.56 billion dollars.
