“We have a serious problem in the region and it is the high unemployment rate among young people, three or four times higher than that of older people and that, of course, has very negative consequences,” he said.
The Chilean lawyer and politician pointed out that work will be done so that migrants within the Ibero-American community are recognized for their years of study and degrees so that they can perform their professional tasks.
Speaking to the press on the occasion of the 29th Ibero-American Summit, Allamand mentioned the digital, environmental and food security issues among the challenges. Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), he stated that the new technologies are transforming the landscape, but a challenge for Latin America is to ensure that AI not only thinks in English, but also in Spanish.
Other challenges in the region are fighting transnational organized crime, climate change, improving access to education and strengthening connectivity.
Allamand called on the member countries to strengthen the ties that unite them and added that only through what is shared it is possible to build a common future.
Delegations from 19 countries are attending the Summit, although of all heads of State and Government summoned only King of Spain Felipe VI and Presidents Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (Portugal), Xavier Espot Zamora (Andorra) and Daniel Noboa (Ecuador), are present.
