Negotiations with the Ministry of Defense, which the sector depends on, were unsuccessful because the government’s offers did not meet the demands of the employees, who had carried out a strike during the last two days.
The main disagreement lies in a bonus demanded by the union groups of four million 200 thousand pesos per year (about four thousand 500 dollars), to be paid in monthly installments.
The authorities made a counterproposal of 600 thousand pesos (about 650 dollars) per year, which was rejected for being considered insufficient.
A new meeting between the parties is scheduled for this Friday. If no agreement is reached, a new strike will occur at noon.
Since last night, service at the airports has been operating normally, but the accumulation of passengers starting on Wednesday is hampering the normal flow of flights.
Several airlines have opted to cancel their flights and have offered people facilities to refund the value of their tickets or make reservations for future dates.
