In September 2022, President Nayib Bukele launched the “My New School” program and promised to remodel 5,150 schools in five years, a plan that the Municipal Works Directorate (DOM) forgot, according to complaints.
The president’s project involved “comprehensive education reform” in six key areas: infrastructure, early childhood, teacher training, renewed curriculum, technology, as well as health and nutrition.
To fund this program, the President assured that they would direct 5,1 % of the projected GDP for 2022, which he said amounted to 1,472.23 billion.
