Angolan Parliament Oks 2025 budget draft

Luanda, Nov 15 (Prensa Latina) The National Assembly of Angola (parliament) has passed a first draft of the General State Budget (PGE) for 2025, with 112 votes in favor, 63 against and three abstentions.

Early during debates, deputies of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita) voiced their opposition to the bill, and on Friday reiterated their arguments, on grounds the draft does not reflect the population’s main aspirations.

Meanwhile, the Humanist Party of Angola voted in favor of the proposed budget, saying that despite various gaps in the document, there is still room to improve it following a thorough assessment.

The Social Renewal Party abstained from giving the project green light, considering the current socio-economic situation, characterized by poverty, inflation and various social maladies.

The People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the ruling party, supported the executive’s proposal saying that it properly places priorities on health, education, infrastructure, security and other sectors crucial for the country’s development.

Next step will be the draft’s assessment by an experts commission, made up of representatives of social organizations and ministerial staff responsible for clarifying doubts and forwarding recommendations.
