This was stated by the president of the Diabetes Uruguay Foundation, Gisele Mosegui, in a television interview. She explained that the Ministry of Health does not have updated or unified information on the number of patients.
She estimated that in the country there are about 150 thousand citizens who could suffer from type two diabetes, whose manifestations can be mild or asymptomatic: tiredness, hunger, thirst, and weight loss that can often be confused with another condition.
Mosegui celebrated that after five years of being passed, the regulation of the Diabetes Act was finally put into effect this year.
She explained that it is a disease that has a genetic component and urged, as prevention and treatment, to adopt healthy habits and to have regular medical check-ups.
Among the activities for the International Day of the Disease here will be days of promotion of better lifestyles, surveys in public places, presentation of the book “With diabetes you can”, as well as the race La Movida de la Diabetes.
