Environment and Natural Resources Minister Fernando Lopez quoted a report by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) that warned of the danger of heavy rains that will cause flash floods and landslides, especially in Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.
As MARN reported, the disturbance located to the southwest of Jamaica and heading toward the Honduran Caribbean region will generate rains and storms in the country during the afternoons and nights of the next few days due to its proximity and the moisture coming from the Pacific, Lopez said.
The NHC estimates that the system will move near Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico at or near hurricane strength early next week when there will be a risk of dangerous storm surges and destructive winds.
