The letter, distributed by CD congressmen who are currently on the opposition, electoral ambitions bring about inner struggles and contribute to the party’s divisions.
The document is addressed to senators Miguel Uribe, María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Andrés Guerra and Paola Holguín, all of whom have publicized their political aspirations as pre-candidates and are now seemingly embroiled in an internal strife following a survey that declared Uribe as the top candidate.
“We urge the search for unity and will not support events and statements such as those that occurred yesterday. Our bench does not support anyone’s intentions to seek disunity,” lawmakers said after signing the letter.
Months ahead of the start of electoral campaigns in the country with a view to 2026, five members of CD are already aspiring to represent their party in the next general elections.
Yesterday, Liberal Party’s Mauricio Gómez said he would enter the electoral run, while businessman Gabriel Gilinski, owner of the right-wing magazine Semana, confirmed today that its current editor in chief, Vicky Dávila, also harbors political aspirations.
