Firefighters from several municipalities, along with the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) and carabineros, are working to combat the flames, hoping to be able to control the emergency on Wednesday.
The most intense fire is registered in the sector of Los Molles, where there is even some damaged infrastructure, although fortunately no homes, the presidential delegate in the province of Marga Marga, Fidel Cueto, told reporters.
In view of the magnitude of the disaster, the authorities declared a red alert in the entire sector and ordered the evacuation of its inhabitants.
At the national level, Conaf identified 10 fires, four of them in Valparaíso (Quilpué, Concón, Santo Domingo and Limache) and the rest in the regions of O’Higgins and Maule.
Chile suffers every year from extreme events, such as forest fires, which are caused by high summer temperatures and prolonged drought.
