Local and foreign media attending a press round here today, learned that 172 Cuban artists and 230 foreign colleagues will attend the event under the theme “Shared horizons”.
According to Nelson Ramírez de Arellano, director of the Biennial, the program includes commemorative exhibitions, research and artistic exploration projects, special projects and lectures.
He added the Biennial will have shared venues in provinces of Pinar del Río, Matanzas and Holguín. Standing out among special projects, Detrás del Muro has developed a large following given its historic record and popularity. Under the title Acera Sur, it will bring together 40 national and foreign artists in Havana.
The opening for the Detrás del Muro project was originally scheduled for Sunday, November 17, but has been rescheduled for November 24, due to delays caused by inclement weather in Cuba.
The director of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Jorge Fernández, explained that the event’s first weekend will feature remarkable exhibitions in the Cuban Art and Universal Art buildings, inside the Museum.
Fine Arts will host hos a theoretical round table on the 22nd and 23rd to analyze the Biennial, contemporary art and beyond, Fernández said.
The program also includes workshops, performances, concerts and public interventions, as well a erecting works of art in emblematic spaces of the city.
Venues will be extended to an array of cultural institutions and communities, namely the Wifredo Lam Center, the Center for the Development of Visual Arts, the Cuban Photographic Museum, Casa de las Américas and Línea and 18th Street Cultural Station and the Office of the City Historian, among others.
