In the opening ceremony of the second meeting of the Political, Security, Social, and Cultural Committee between the two nations, Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar explained that among other regional and global issues, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) initiative would also be reviewed.
From the discussions we have had and hope to continue, it is clear that we share a similar interest in preserving stability in the region and boosting our economies towards greater prosperity,” Jaishankar said.
The Indian foreign minister expressed his country’s concern over the scenario in West Asia, particularly in Gaza, and its deep sorrow over the continued deaths of Palestinian civilians.
He said India’s stance in this regard has been principled and consistent. Any response must respect international humanitarian law. We support an early ceasefire, he stated.
About the relations with Saudi Arabia, Jaishankar affirmed that New Delhi and Riyadh have maintained their high-level engagement and coordination at multilateral fora.
