During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat congratulated Yusoof on his recent appointment as governor and updated him on the progress of bilateral ties in the political and trade spheres.

González thanked Sri Lanka’s permanent support for the Cuban resolution against the blockade, which year after year is approved by majority at the United Nations headquarters.

For his part, the governor highlighted Cuba’s friendship and cooperation with his country and the granting of scholarships to Sri Lanka despite the difficult economic situation facing the Caribbean island. The meeting was attended by the head of the Public Relations Office, Aritha Wickramasinghe; Mohamed Cader, of the Governor’s Office, and Maribel Duarte, first secretary of the Cuban Embassy.

The Western Province is one of Sri Lanka’s nine provinces, being the most densely populated in the country and home to Colombo, the capital and administrative and commercial center of the South Asian nation.
